Why Business Cards?
Ever wonder why we still hand out business cards to people? I read an article today on how people are electronically or to be precise social media obsessed. And at some point in our daily routines, we all get attached by something electronic or deal or work with social media. It got me thinking, wouldn’t it be simple If we just referred people to an online information rather than hand them a business card? There are a few business card apps out in the market, but why haven’t they taken over transferring information yet? I’m pretty sure the nature conservative people will love to see a few less trees cut down to develop cards. Most business people will agree, the worst way to promote your business is to meet a client, and not have a business card to hand out after. So wouldn’t that make sense, to have a device with you to show people as your business information rather than a piece of card? After thinking about all these questions, I came up with some answers for myself as to why people and businesses can’t do without business cards.
We have all seen those futuristic movies where people just flash or swipe their business cards to transfer information to each other. I am aware there are business cards apps that can be used to store and transfer information, but the fact is they all charge ridiculous amounts, at least from those i’v come across. A majority of them are very complicated and not reliable. I feel like it will be easy to email clients information rather than pay for something that might or might not work. And in addition information will still have to be copied into an address book at some point. To me thats a lot of process just to get ones information.
Any business entrepreneur will tell you, business cards are an essential part of any business marketing strategy. It’s usually the first line in getting in touch with other business people. I believe who ever came up with the first business card, did so just to strike a conversation with other people by handing out a card. I do hand out my card just so I can get the other persons card, just to know them. Most of the time, people form an opinion about you with in the first 10 secs in contact, thats a very important period because for most “you only get one shot to impress”. Your business card can be the difference between you being judge positively or not. It doesn’t describe your whole business, but it paints a professional picture about yourself or your business. Being the well dressed person in a room will only go as far, if you potential client cannot read information on your card.
All I am trying to say is that, business cards make it more simple to transfer ones information. It also makes it easy for people to introduce themselves, by breaking that awkward moment when you meat someone for the first time. Business cards should be the first piece for any business to start up with, till something new comes up and prove other wise.
